Do you believe in setting goals? How often do you actually follow through with the goals you set? How often do you set them? Do you keep track of progress daily?
It's no secret that most of the richest people in the world are strong believers in goal setting. Setting and working towards goals in the first step in achieving your dreams, both financially and not. It helps you map a path to success and to follow that path.
Most people live their life pretty passively. They wake up each day and go to work and do the same routine day in and day out without really thinking about it. It's almost as if their life is on auto-pilot. When you set goals, and start tracking progress, you will break that "life mold" and start living with conscious thought in regards to your daily actions.
You'll also realize just how much downtime you have each day. A lot of people, including myself, think that they don't have enough time to accomplish "extra" tasks or goals. But when they have free time, they can't think of anything productive to do. Having hard goals set will allow you to know what you want to accomplish whenever you have this extra time.
Something I like to do when setting goals is to share them with someone close to me. I don't like to post them all over social media and rub it in everyone's faces though. I find one or two people close to me and inform them of my goals. Having these people that I care about ask me how I'm doing with my goals helps to keep me accountable.
You also can choose to not inform anyone of your goals. Some people feel that having others know creates an added an unwanted pressure which can actually effect you negatively. Regardless of whether or not you tell someone, you'll find that just having hard goals will intrinsically motivate you and keep you accountable. Speaking of which...
Writing down your goals and keeping them near by is a great way to keep you motivated. When you're working hard and starting to lose steam, you can look them over and get reinvigorated as to why you are working so hard in the first place.
Goals help you to paint a clearer picture of where you want to be versus where you currently are. Envisioning the future in a positive way is an excellent way to drive you forward towards reaching that future. You should also consider other visual reminders such as a vision board to help you visualize your goals.
It's easy to see how goals can help you achieve what you want in life. It's also easy to brush it off and keep living your life in a daze. It's important that you sit down, right now, and start thinking about and writing down your goals for the next 1 month, 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, etc.
I'll leave you with a quote from Zig Ziglar:
“You need a plan to build a house. To build a life, it is even more important to have a plan or goal.” – Zig Ziglar
